SG

while i had time to walk around singapore's changi airport several times in the past, i haven't been to singapore, really. that's because i didn't venture out of the airport to walk around during the times i've been there for a connecting flight. so back in february, i booked a trip to singapore, even i'm pretty sure i'll travel all by myself.

all along, i thought that i'll have three full days of travel. but to my surprise (not a pleasant one), i only have two full days since i needed to leave sg monday midnight. oh well, i was pretty sure that i'll make the most of my time there. and i did.

i stayed at checkers inn at little india, less than five minute walk from the mrt station. i shared a room with two indonesians (i think); the room had three double decker beds and they provided the linens and a towel. breakfast was free but self-service. you can have eggs to cook, some butter, strawberry jams, peanut butter, unlimited coffee and instant teh tarik, as well as tasty bread. all in all, the hostel was pretty basic and functional, the only drawback was the ultra small space for taking a shower, i guess made for an asian like me. i wonder how the typical caucasian backpackers manage to do their thing there! hehehe!

i met mommy ruth saturday morning, around 11 or so, after some walking in little india's not yet fully awake but colorful streets. mommy ruth then gave me my mrt pass and we headed to chinatown. first stop was the charms and bracelets/ all typical chinese amulets area and we entered the chinese temple. some more walking and we had a soymilk break. we then headed to sg's financial district, but not before some photos in and around the red (red dot design) building. after some bak kut teh for lunch at vivo city, we went straight to sentosa. hace calor but since i was a turista, we kept walking and took a lot of pics. we didn't go to the universal studios anymore, but decided to see the dolphin show at underwater world.

it was really a humid day, so we headed back to the aircon-ed confines of vivo city and had some chinese dumplings for merienda. mommy ruth and i waited for kay, and we all had a very hearty dinner at that famous place, name of which i can't remember, but they're famous for spicy crab. sarap! while having dinner, we thought of seeing some fireworks display so we headed to a park somewhere near the dhoby ghaut station, but it turned out to be just some fire dancing acrobatics. as kay needed to stay back a bit to work on some urgent ones, mommy ruth and i went back to vivo city to catch a last full show screening of harry potter and the deathly hallows 1. that was done after some coffee at starbucks. i took a cab going back to checkers inn, reached the hostel at around 2:30 am! what a day!

salamat kay mommy ruth sa lahat ng libre niya at kay kay for that dinner! my second day in sg coming soon!
